Business Intelligence

• Traditionally focuses on using a consistent set of metrics to measure past performance and guide business planning. 
• Business Intelligence consists of  
• Querying, 
• Reporting, 
• Dash Boarding, 
• OLAP (online analytical processing)  & Analysis.
• BI can answer questions including  
• “what happened,” 
• “how many,” and 
• “how often”.

Business Analytics (Advanced Analytics)

•  In BA, we use sophisticated modeling techniques to predict future events or discover patterns.
• Advanced Analytics can answer questions including 
• “why is this happening,” 
• “what if these trends continue,” 
• “what will happen next” (prediction), 
• “what is the best that can happen” (optimization)

Differences between Business Intelligence & Business Analytics

Reports: 

Reporting is the art of collecting data from various data sources and presenting it to end-users in a way that is understandable and ready to be analyzed. 

Analysis :

The process of organizing & presenting data into informational summaries in order to monitor how different areas of a business are performing. 

Dash boards:

• A business intelligence dashboard is a data visualization tool.
• It displays the current status of metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs).

• Dashboard is a collection of high level business single valued metrics, visualizations from various data sources on a  single screen.
 

Difference Between Reporting & Analysis 

• Reports & Dashboards deals with data while Analysis turns the data into information. 
• Reporting & Dash boarding follows push approach whereas Analysis follows pull approach. 

Ad-hoc Reporting:

Reports ,Dashboards, Analysis answer below questions :

• “what happened,” 
• “how many,”
• “how often” and
• "What is happening"  and etc.
